Max Lucado made this statement, "Nothing remains between you and God but an open door." Something happened in the death of Christ that opened the door for you and me! That in the horror of his torn flesh, we find the splendor of the open door.
When I look at the open door I think about the wonderful salvation we have in Christ. The opportunity to have fellowship with our awesome God. Because of the open door all that pass through it have the opportunity to have fellowship with one another.
But, sometimes we shut the door on our fellowship with God and one another. There are also times when we slam the door shut. Many things can cause us to close the door on God and each other. The main reason though is sin. Our sins and the sins of others. In may cases we like to overlook our own and focus on everyone else's. Think about it though for a moment if your relationship with God is not what it should be then every other relationship in you life will be affected. It will hinder our walk with God and with each other.
There are many reasons that we give for it happening and some we refuse to acknowledge. We blame others for what we perceive they have done to us. We blame at times God for letting us down when he didn't meet the wants on our wish list. At other times it is nothing more than the pressures of life that get to us. Paying bills, meeting deadlines, taking care of the kids and just trying to find time for self. We have all been there. Maybe you feel I have let you down and you are probably right and for that I am sorry. Then again just maybe we (you and I) just allowed some distance to come between us and God.
Maybe we got busy making money and spending money and being blinded by the American Dream that we woke up one morning and didn't even realize it at the time that we had drifted away from God. God never moves but we do and when we do the door of fellowship closes. But, praise God it can be opened again. Not that we get saved again but fellowship can be restored. Yes we can get back to where we use to be if we want to. It's up to you. I have been on a journey for a while. I woke up and found myself a long way from home. Am I back where I once was? No, but I see the candle burning in the window. I am almost there! How about You!
In Revelation 3;20 Jesus tells us, 'Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and dine with him, and he with me! I don't think he is talking as much about salvation as He is fellowship. So why sit out there eating at a card table by your yourself when you could be feasting at a banquet table with Jesus and the rest of the saints. Yes at the dinner table we sometimes squabble. Jesus though sits at the head of the table and when he says hush then let your soul be quiet and listen to what the Master has to say.
See Ya Sunday,
The Pastor
